Things to Avoid on a Senior Date

Dating can seem daunting, no matter what your age is. With more and more seniors looking for and finding love, you have no excuse not to give it a try. If your matchmaker has already set you up on a couple of dates, here are a few things you’ll want to avoid when you show up at the restaurant.

Being negative

Whatever your age is, being grumpy and abrupt can cut that date short or nix any chance of getting a call for a second one. Be positive instead, Sixty and Me says. People will much more attracted and drawn to you when you aren’t being a vortex of negativity.

Being much too serious

Smooth over any awkwardness with humor. That’s going to help break the ice, put your date at ease and get you both comfortable enough to engage in meaningful conversation. By the time the meal ends, you and your date may be on your way to being the best of friends.

Oversharing

Don’t bog down your first date with too many details of your private life. Keep any mention of your medical, financial or family information out of it. Also, try not to boast of your credentials. That’s usually a big turn off. Just let the conversation flow.

Ranting about your ex

Imagine going to dinner with someone and having to suffer throughout the entire meal, hearing your date rant about her/his ex. That’s not exactly a pleasant experience and it’s often a red flag that the other person isn’t quite over their spouse or partner just yet. If you don’t want to give that impression, then stop ranting about your ex.
