Learn More About Refrigerator Water Filters

by | Jan 25, 2019 | Water Filters

The creation of the water and ice dispenser for the modern refrigerator was a great innovation, but it does tend to leave a lot of questions. How clean is that water? Is there a way that you can improve it? You’re looking at a lot of contaminants, obviously whether it’s chemicals, minerals, or other particulates.

While we like to think that our local tap water is safe that is usually far from the truth. There are quite a few things that the local water treatment plant tends to miss out on! That being said, refrigerator water filters are one of the best investments that you can make.

Understanding Refrigerator Water Filters

The first thing you need to know is that a water filter is measured in microns. The lower the micron rating is, the more particles the screen will be able to capture. In the typical screen, you will have a score of about 20 microns, though you should try to go for lower if at all possible.

Apart from that, you do need to know where the water filter is to be installed on your refrigerator, which can be a bit of a task. Below there are a few different examples you can use and check against the type of refrigerator that you have.

The Grille

For most refrigerators, it’s a cartridge that is inserted in the base behind or near the grille. It slides out quickly and can be replaced within a few minutes.

The Drop Down

Unlike the grille, the drop down is usually inside the refrigerator, often concealed quite cleverly in the food compartment. It drops down and can be replaced quickly.

The Slide Out

These are a lot like the ones that you would find in the grill and can be released with the press of a button.

The Cannister

Finally, you have the canister which is, once again, in the back of the food compartment. These are barrel-shaped and easy to remove.

Refrigerator water filters can make all the difference; make sure that yours has one!
